My name's Liaquat Sain. Judging by the spelling Li-AQUA-T my folks had NO IDEA that all things aquatic would be a driven passion…. and THAT'S where AQUALITY the name springs from - My name (Rearranged) - “A” grade, top quality - •  Aqua – WATER/Amanzi/H2O/clear, wet stuff

Been an aquarist by default, I suppose. Caught fish @ beach, brought home in bucket – didn't survive the night!!! I wonder why?? Dad hauled out an old steel-framed 1 foot (30 cm) tank, from storage, dusted it off. Got me some fish (goldfish, guppies), snails and plants. By the way, HE kept several aquaria BEFORE I was born. Eventually maintained by my GRAN – NOT because of negligence – but due to the aquaria being “SHOWPIECES” of furniture (BACK in the ‘60's) and my dad's school/work schedule.

So, genetically I'm part fish … NO! Just kidding, but nearly true. I've come all LONG, LONG, LOOOONG way since then. Even my ability to write/read was spurred on by my fascination of wet-pets. Was 4 when I began to read, write, keep fish and start asking questions .

Finally or finally? Either. I liked them, they swam, died, gave birth, got sick, died, ate, died. Got the picture? A trend emerged even I noticed (brushy 5 year old by then). Decided to ding out MORE, asked parents/petshopowners, asked for books. Dad figured what harm could come of buying ANOTHER tank, some books as birthday gifts (or rewards for doing well at school). Yep! You guessed it. I did pretty well academically, the reward system worked. I learnt about fish, got good grades, got more tanks, more books, more fish and less DIED. Getting somewhere are we?

Fast forward from Port Elizabeth early ‘80's to Cape Town (Millennial). I now have a wet warehouse where for the last 3 years I have rekindled my learning, yearning and (possibly) earning potential with the MOST DIFFICULT, challenging aspects of aquatics – as a hobby.

  • MARINE LIFE
  • INCLUDING FISH & CORALS
  • FRESHWATERLIFE
  • DISCUS & OTHER EXOTICS

Including short pauses (primarily due to relocations and university life) I've kept aquaria for almost 25 years!!! Freshwater all that time, marines on and off from my 1 st “bucket tank” to 30 plus (soon to be 40).

THIS IS A HOBBY. I TAKE IT SERIOUSLY, NOW I”VE GAINED A parallel “STREAM” OF ACTIVITIES due to it:
